Kölner Chaos Orchester

The Kölner Chaos Orchester (KCO) was founded in spring 2025 and, following several successful project phases, now meets regularly in the spaces of Ensemble Musikfabrik. Here, new music in the broadest sense comes into being: improvised and composed, quiet, loud, wild, fragile, humorous — sometimes all at once.

The KCO understands chaos not as mere disorder, but as a productive state: an open field in which shared forms emerge from many individual impulses.

The orchestra is deliberately open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or musical experience. Participation is possible with or without an instrument: those with experience bring their practice; those who are curious bring their questions. Both matter.

This openness lies at the heart of the KCO’s idea: cultural boundaries dissolve, and what remains is the connective force of listening, responding, and making music together.

The meetings are not conceived as a continuous rehearsal process; anyone may join at any time. When a concert approaches, rehearsals focus more specifically on the programme, without abandoning the ensemble’s open character.

New participants are always welcome — because the best things still emerge from emptiness.
