Kölner Chaos Orchester
The Cologne Chaos Orchestra (KCO) was founded in spring 2025 and, following successful project phases, now meets regularly at the Ensemble Musikfabrik rehearsal spaces. Here, new music is created in the broadest sense: improvised and composed, quiet, loud, wild, fragile, funny—sometimes all at once. The KCO understands chaos not as mere disorder, but as a productive state: as an open space in which many individual impulses give rise to common forms. The orchestra is deliberately open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, origin, or musical background. Participation is possible with or without an instrument: those with experience bring their skills; those who are curious bring their questions. Both are valuable. This openness is at the heart of the KCO’s philosophy: cultural boundaries dissolve, and what remains is the unifying power of listening, responding, and playing together. The meetings are not designed as a continuous rehearsal process; anyone who wants to can join at any time. When a concert is coming up, rehearsals focus specifically on the program without giving up the open character. New players are always welcome since the best things still come from emptiness.
