Gerda König
Gerda König, born in 1966, initially studied psychology before turning to dance in 1991. In 1995, she founded DIN A 13 tanzcompany, one of the internationally leading mixed-abled ensembles.
As artistic director and choreographer, she has developed over 37 productions for international festivals, among others in collaboration with Gitta Roser. At the core of her work is the exploration of the movement qualities of “other bodies” and the expansion of prevailing aesthetic norms in contemporary dance.
Alongside her artistic practice, she is actively engaged in advancing mixed-abled dance on a structural level and, together with Gitta Roser, developed projects such as M.A.D.E. and UNIque@dance. For her work, she has received numerous awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2021).
