Senem Gökçe Oğultekin
Senem Gökçe Oğultekin was born in 1982 in Izmir, Turkey. In 2001 she came to Essen Germany to study dance at the Folkwang University of Arts which she completed with the Folkwang Dance Prize of the Josef and Else Classen – Foundation. Her work spans the disciplines of choreography, performance and film. As a performer she has worked with VA Wölfl / NEUER TANZ, Meg Stuart, Laurent Chetouane and Mara Tsironi among others. As a singer she sang in VA Wölfl Schönberg’s “Erwartung” in “NEUES PIECE von NEUER TANZ” and in Chétouane’s “Bach/Passion/Johannes” she took on the role of the evangelist. In 2019, her film “Dun/Home” was chosen for Artist´s Film International 2019, an international event initiated by Whitechapel Gallery in London. In this frame “Dun/ Home” was shown at various museums and galleries of the world. In 2020, Senem Gökçe Oğultekin was awarded the Allbau Foundation Culture Prize and was appointed to the Young College by the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2021. Through the use of vocal work, multimedia, dance, embodied research and improvisation she creates hybrid works that exist in the liminal space between the fault lines that categorize artistic practices and contexts.
