Frauke Meyer

Freelance director and artistic project manager Frauke Meyer was born in Dresden. She studied music theater directing at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg. Subsequently, she worked at the San Francisco Opera and Theater Basel, where she took her first steps in directing. From 2005 to 2013, she served as the Stage Director at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she developed various productions. At the same time, she began working as a freelance director for theaters such as Theater Dortmund and the Winter Opera Potsdam, and was responsible for international stage adaptations in Montpellier, Istanbul, or Luxembourg. Since 2013, she has worked as a freelance director and project developer at institutions such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Cologne Festival for Early Music, the Theater Bonn, the Cologne Baroque Orchestra, the Saxon State Opera, the Sound Art Festival bonnhoeren, or as part of the BTHVN2020 project.

Frauke Meyer teaches “Stage Presentation” for singers at the University of Music and Theater Rostock and in the “Music in Context” program at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz. Since 2017, she has been working as the artistic project manager of the Women’s Cultural Office NRW, focusing on enabling art for people identified as female, i.e., she sets the framework or seeks model solutions to generate equal access and opportunities in art and culture for people identified as female as for their male colleagues. She has opened the Women’s Cultural Office NRW to the fields of performing arts and music and has initiated numerous collaborations and themes such as the model project on family compatibility in theaters with a symposium, the question of female* leaders in the performing arts, or the project “Conductors to the Podiums!”
