Carlie Schoonees, born in 1995 in Stellenbosch, is a South African composer currently based in Cologne, Germany. She completed her bachelor’s in composition at Stellenbosch University in 2018 and a master’s in instrumental composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne in 2022, where she is currently enrolled in a master’s in electronic composition under the tutelage of Michael Beil. She had works performed at festivals such as Woordfees 2018 (ZA) and AvantGarten Liedberg 2020 (DE), and had two works premiered by Ensemble Musikfabrik as part of the Adventure concert series. Her music has been performed in South Africa, Germany and Italy.
